FANHS-GPS is proud to announce that for the second year in a row, it will co-host with the Washington State History Museum a free event celebrating Filipino American History Month on October 16, from 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm.
This year’s theme is Buhay: The Filipino American Experience. The Tagalog word “buhay,” has two meanings, depending on its use and pronunciation: life or alive. With this in mind, the theme centers on how have Filipinos and Filipino Americans defined “life” or “alive?”
The event will feature:
local Filipino and Filipino American organizations, including Filipino American Educators of Washington, Filipino American League of Pierce County, Philippine Scouts Heritage Society - Calugas Chapter (PSHS - Calugas Chapter), Malaya Tacoma
free sampling of Filipino food by Jan Parker Cookery
Filipino food and merchandise vendors, like Ube Books, Maligayang Craft Company, Dovi Seattle, Lumpia Love, NBrothers
cultural performances by Filipiniana Multicultural Dance Troupe and Thomas Kultura Performance Arts Club
The event culminates in a moderated panel titled, “The American Dream: Joy, Liberation, and Filipino/x Futures,” featuring Cindy Domingo, Devin Israel Cabanilla, Annabel Lee Garcia-Andresen, and Gabbie Quintinita.
